Through educational programs, mentoring, advocacy and networking, our members attain professional growth and development.  Founded in 1976 under a different brand, Healthcare Leaders Association of Alabama is the voice for the medical group practice profession in the state of Alabama.

More than 700 members from across the state rely on the Healthcare Leaders Association of Alabama to serve as their resource for information, education, exchange of ideas and industry contacts so that they can provide quality  management and leadership to their physicians and staff.  Healthcare Leaders Association of Alabama's diverse membership is comprised of administrators, managers, supervisors, faculty, students and other healthcare professionals representing practices of all sizes and specialties. This presentation provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive overview of the patient termination process, with a focus on how to ethically and legally end the patient-physician relationship. Emphasis is placed on patient abandonment, ensuring continuity of care, and minimizing legal risks. The presentation will also address special considerations, such as handling termination during active treatment, including pregnancy, or with difficult patients, and navigating regulations.

  1. When should you consider terminating the physician/patient relationship.
  2. How to minimize the legal risks associated with patient termination.
  3. Importance of a written process for patient termination.
  4. How to navigate the termination process when the patient decides to end the relationship

About our speaker:

Tracey is a Senior Risk Consultant at Curi, a national advisory firm headquartered in Raleigh, NC. Tracey has more than 35 years of experience in the healthcare industry, dedicating most of these years to patient safety in the insurance arena. She is an experienced risk consultant and has worked as a clinical nurse. Tracey participates in research and development of new products, provides risk management services to clients, and manages large member accounts.

Tracey is licensed as a registered nurse in North Carolina and is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM). She is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), and the North Carolina chapter of ASHRM where she served as president in 2023. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Spring Arbor University, Spring Arbor, Michigan.
